Lorenzi Park

Las Vegas, Nevada

Lorenzi Park is one of the oldest recreation sites in the Las Vegas valley. The site has been used for a wide variety of purposes from public recreation to a ranch with orchards. The design team renovated the historic western portion of the site, which contains the urban lake and many buildings listed on the State of Nevada historic registry. The lake itself was reformed to create the appearance of two lakes, reminiscent of the “Twin Lakes” historic period of the site. The lake was modified to alleviate safety concerns and to create a natural appearance with aquatic plantings and improved fish and wildlife habitats. The renovation included the reclaiming of an existing asphalt parking lot for the creation of a green open park space.

Additionally, the team worked with representatives of the City of Las Vegas Historic Preservation Committee in recreating some of the vast history of the facility over the last 80 years, including a replica of a band shell on the island in the southern portion of the lake, picnic shelter areas were created using themed stone facades and play areas replicating the materials from the built history of the site.
